The Star Spangled Banner

When I was a kid, my mom used to "say prayers and sing songs" with us every night before we went to bed. After prayers, my mom would sing us "How Much Is That Doggie In the Window?" Strange, huh? I have no idea how that became the song and I wonder how old I was when she stopped singing it to us -- I suspect I was close to being in middle school.

Fast forward 20 years now to last Monday. Memorial Day.

I was trying to explain to Reagan why Daddy didn't have to work and why we have a "holiday" to remember our soldiers.

I want her to value our freedom, our country, and our flag. I told her that there was even a song written about our flag. I said, "Do you want to hear it, Reagan? It's called the Star Spangled Banner."

She's asked me to sing it every night since then. And now I'm wondering if I'm going to have to sing it to her every night until she's in middle school...

in our family it was my dad and I racing to see who could sing Yankee Doodle the fastest.

There's some high notes in that one too--can't wait to hear you sing it. Maybe you could sing it at one of our family gatherings since you're getting so much practice! =)

I second that idea!
