Reagan funny of the weekend

At our house, we burn a lot of firewood in our fireplace. Chuck has cut a bunch of trees down and split the logs for the fire, but they are all at the bottom of the hill below our retaining wall. On Sunday Chuck and I were going to bring some of that firewood up onto the deck - so it is easy to get when we are ready to burn it.

Since it was so nice, we asked Reagan if she wanted to go outside and help. She was excited! We messed around for awile and didn't actually get around to going outside for awhile and when we were finally ready I asked Reagan if she was ready "to go outside and throw up some wood with Daddy." I was surprised when she looked down and sadly said "No thanks." Sally asked her why she had changed her mind already... She said, "No thanks, I don't want to go barf up wood."

Prayers

Our nightly bedtime routine with Reagan includes saying a prayer. Here's the one I just heard:

Thank you God for Mommy, Daddy, and Gwama, and Gwapa, and my animaws, heaw Squeaker's cough (Grant is RSVish), um..., my bed, me be quiet why Mommy is pwaying, um..., A-MEN!

Aside from Grant being sick, things here are relatively calm. We had planned to go to CF this weekend for Joel's cousin's wedding reception, but I don't think Grant and I will be making the trip. :(

Our alarm clock is 'broken'...

His name is Grant and he used to wake us up every night at 3am sharp. He reset himself to 5am and has been stuck there for a couple of weeks. And last night (I have a huge smile just thinking about it) we put both the kids to bed at 7:45 and neither one got up until 7:15! Amazing. This is the much needed sleep I have been (day) dreaming of.

I have become "that" mother...

So today it happened to me. I became "that" mother -- you've seen her -- she's the one you see at the grocery store --- she's red-faced, frustrated, humiliated, and lost for words as her two-year-old screams, cries, and jumps up and down in the check-out aisle. My sweet, sunshine girl turned into the child I swore I would never have... How did this happen? And yet, somehow life goes on.

I am even more grateful that Joel's parents are taking the kids for the weekend... :)

Happy Anniversary to us!

This week, Joel and I "celebrated" 9 years of marriage. And by "celebrated" I mean, we went to work like every other day and had HyVee chicken for supper instead of cooking. :)

Last night, we attended our first Iowa caucus. We weren't the only ones, because it was crowded and most of the people around us didn't know what to do either. We took Reagan with us and packed a "purse" for her with stickers, markers, and paper to color on. She drew a picture of "Big Bird" (purple scribbles) and tried to hand it in to the moderator guy with the rest of our ballots. We asked Reagan if Big Bird was a liberal or a conservative, and she said he was a 'swervative'. I guess that's why she voted for him.
